What we do
We acquired our first minibus in 1969, originally to serve the needs of the Bosham Old Timers, a musical group who gave concerts around the county but also to transport members to and from meetings and other excursions.
The present minibus is a Mercedes Sprinter, acquired in 2016. It operates under a ‘Section 19’ licence which stipulates its target group as elderly, disabled and school children in our vicinity. It is driven and managed by a team of loyal, local volunteers.
During the course of any week, it provides support to the Bosham community. On Monday afternoon, it picks up and takes home members of the Monday Club; on Wednesday's, it takes a busload to Sainsbury's and, on Friday, to Tesco. On Sunday, it takes people to Church. We have experimented with a service on Tuesday to Southbourne (farm shop/library) and Emsworth but not found enough users so far. In the Summer, we organise monthly excursions to local attractions, generally on a Thursday.
As well as these trips it takes a ‘bus load’ of pupils to Bishop Luffa every school day morning.
Local not-for-profit organisations use the bus for excursions, including the Bosham WI, Britannia Court, Bosham Bell Ringers, Bosham Cricket Club, Bosham Football Club and St Wilfrid’s Hospice. As well as all these regular duties, the bus is used by local organisations as and when they may request our help.
We are always interested in talking about any other trips which could be useful to our target group. One we are exploring is a service to Sage House, the dementia support centre.
