What we do
After over 50 years, this is still a very SOCIAL place to come along to – offering a warm welcome, tea and cake, chat, activities, outings and FRIENDSHIP. We are a club for older people, mostly living independently and many living on their own.
We meet regularly – on Mondays as the name suggests – in St Nicholas Hall, Brooks Lane, Bosham, in the afternoons 2-4pm. As members arrive into the hall, they are greeted with an array of tables laid with bright blue table cloths, flowers and tea plates and chairs with brightly coloured cushions – all the better for sitting on!
Members pay £2 per session and this goes towards the tea, the rent and insurance for the hall and activities. The Club is self-financing and, in addition to the subscription, there is a weekly raffle and a small sales table. Outings are costed and paid for separately and, from time to time, we have received some very generous donations from individuals.
The session usually starts with tea and chat, during which we also run the raffle and the sales table, we give out notices and celebrate members' birthdays. After about an hour it is time for activities – and these range from old favourites like board games, race day and bingo to the more exotic, like a talk on Fresh Water Pearls, Tai Chi, poetry, crafts, exercises and music to listen to or to join in. The programme is varied.
Each month we organise a local outing, travelling by minibus and cars, to one of our nearby beauty spots or place of interest, where we can walk, shop and have tea. Occasionally we go for a lunch.
The Club is now run by a small team of volunteers: Jenny (Chair), Wendy (Treasurer) Sue (Transport), Philippa, Mary and Sarah. The Trustees also come along and lend a hand, Pam, Wendy W and Jan. We also are greatly helped by the Bosham minibus team and their volunteer drivers who run a pick-up service to bring in some of our members and get them home again.
